This 12 days Rwanda Classic Safari starts and ends in Kigali. It involves visiting Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda for gorilla trekking and Dian Fossey grave hike. The scenery in the shadow of the volcanoes is one of the most breathtaking in Africa. You will visit Nyungwe Forest National Park for chimpanzee tracking and game viewing at Akagera National Park.

12 Days Rwanda Classic Safari
This 12 days Rwanda Classic Safari starts and ends in Kigali. It involves visiting Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda for gorilla trekking and Dian Fossey grave hike. The scenery in the shadow of the volcanoes is one of the most breathtaking in Africa. You will visit Nyungwe Forest National Park for chimpanzee tracking and game viewing at Akagera National Park.

Day 1: Arrival in Kigali International Airport
On arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be met by our safari representative/guide and transferred at the hotel for relaxation, dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Head to Volcanoes National Park
After breakfast, carry out some shopping and a visit to Gisozi genocide memorial centre and later, drive north of the country to Volcanoes National Park. On arrival, you can decide to have an optional community walk for a good cultural experience of a true Rwandese culture in Ruhengeri, if time permits.

Day 3: Gorilla trekking
Have an early morning breakfast and be transferred to the Park headquarters for a gorilla briefing before the trek. After this you will set out in the forest to search for these rare Mountain Gorillas. The time you will spend in the forest searching for the Gorillas is not predictable as it depends on where they spend the last night. After coming across the gorillas, you will spend one hour in their company while taking their photos, observing their behaviour and feeding patterns, before retracing your way back to the headquarters for certificate issuing. Return to the lodge for relaxation and if time allows, have a scenic drive to the twin lakes Burera and Ruhondo.

Day 4: Dian Fossey Grave Hike
This morning, you will participate in the trek to Karisoke Gorilla Research Centre which Dian Fossey, the famous primatologist set up. Because of her struggle to protect the endangered mountain gorilla in Rwanda, a voluntary project was found called; Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund International. Please note that this adventurous activity takes a full day.

Day 5: Transfer to Gisenyi town
After breakfast, you will depart Kinigi to Gisenyi town which is located on the shores of Lake Kivu. Upon arrival, have lunch and after you can take an optional visit at the Imbabazi Orphanage which provides education, skills training and income generating opportunities to orphans. Otherwise, you can relax on the beach as you wait for your dinner and overnight Accommodation: Lake Kivu Serena Hotel (Luxury), Stipp Hotel (Midrange), Paradis Malahide Hotel (Budget) Meal Plan: Breakfast, lunch and dinner Day 6: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park After breakfast, drive along the road on the shores of Lake Kivu to Nyungwe Forest National Park. On your way, you will visit Kibuye town also found on the shores of Lake Kivu for spectacular sceneries. Have lunch and later proceed to Cyangugu town which is on the southern shore of Lake Kivu and also a gateway to Nyungwe Forest National Park. You will reach Nyungwe in the evening in time for dinner and overnight.

Day 7: Chimpanzee tracking
Have an early morning breakfast and head fore chimpanzee tracking in Nyungwe Forest. This can take anything from a few hours to a full day depending on where the chimpanzees are. It should be mentioned that it is not guaranteed to see the chimps as they are unpredictable and can move long distances in one day. There are several other primates in Nyungwe such as the Rwenzori colobus, Hoest Monkey, silver monkey, owl faced monkey, red tailed monkey, vervet monkey and olive baboon and so many others. Return to the lodge for lunch and relaxation after the trek.

Day 8: Forest walks
After breakfast, you will spend another day in the forest participating in the forest walk which can take about 4-5 hours up to the water falls. You can also spot other primate species missed out in the previous primate trek. Return for dinner and overnight.

Day 9: Return to Kigali
Have breakfast and drive back to Kigali with en- route stop-over at the Genocide Memorial of Murambi. You may decide to visit the Nyanza Royal Palace. The site displays original items and pieces of history of the Old Mwami who was the King. Proceed to Kigali for dinner and overnight.

Day 10: Drive to Akagera National Park
After breakfast, you will depart for Akagera National Park which is located along the Rwanda and Tanzanian border. After lunch at the Lodge, you will go the afternoon boat trip on the Lake Ihema to see the large number of hippos, the huge Nile crocodile and so many bird species. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 11: Game drive
After breakfast, you will go for the morning breakfast to search for the large herds of game animals which the park is famous for and these include; Burchell’s Zebra, lions, elephants, topi, giraffes, impalas and over 425 species of birds including the rare shoe billed stock, African jacana. Return back to the lodge for lunch and in the afternoon, drive back to Kigali.

Day 12: Reserved for departure
